City Confidential: Andy Hudson
By Alexa Hinton, ahinton@nashvillecitypaper.com
November 27, 2006
Andy Hudson was wandering the house of his future in-laws in search of the bathroom when he stumbled upon a clandestine junk room. The first thing to catch the eye of the then-25-year-old explorer was a ukulele lying among the untidy contents of the closet-like room.

“I picked it up and started messing around with it, and I just couldn't put it down,” Hudson said. “It sounds like I was hooked. You might think that I ran right out and bought a ukulele the very next day. But I didn't. As much as that little uke spoke to me, I somehow let nine years slip by before I would buy and really learn to play ukulele.”

I'll slip this in as semi-relevant, since NashUkes started in East Nashville-- just wanted to let everyone know that Art and Invention gallery in East Nashville is about to have many beautiful works of art in a variety of media on display (including some jewelry and Christmas ornaments made by my wife Carrie). Still need to find a special gift for someone or yourself? This is the place to do it!

Show will be up through Dec. 24

Baby on Board

I was excited that the Nashukes were going to tackle this song (here's the tabs and chords),
but we only touched on it briefly--Andy was the only one who had the tune in his head. Since I sort of know it from the Simpsons, I went digging on YouTube and found the clip to post for future reference:

It's lousy quality, shot right off a TV screen (and there's some talking over it) but you get the idea. If we could also figure out the four part harmony, this could be a show-stopper.

Or even better, here's an mp3 sans dialogue. (thanks Tim!)

'Ukulele Karaoke

A little shameless self-promotion here. The latest VeggieTales DVD release, "Gideon - Tuba Warrior", features a Silly Song Segment called Ukulele Karaoke With Bob which features a little ditty entitled "Lance the Turtle".
It was composed by Mike Nawrocki, Kurt Heinecke and Tim Hodge (me). And I got to play my Kamaka on the track.
If you have kids, you have an excuse to run out and buy a copy.

In case you were unaware, VeggieTales is produced here in Franklin, TN!
